Modelling the spatio-temporal characteristics of substantiated child maltreatment risk has significant implications for child welfare policy. This study quantifies the spatiotemporal risk of child abuse and neglect in New Mexico at the census tract level over 9 years, identifies areas of increased risk, and evaluates the role of multiple measures of social vulnerability on substantiated child maltreatment referrals.
This project uses text data I scraped from the LA Times Homicide report to model the unstructured text descriptions of the circumstances surrounding the deaths of children in LA County for the purpose of classification and identification of risk factors for fatal child maltreatment and victimization.
